With the steady increase in the number of people suffering from diabetes and due to untoward effect of present synthetic oral antidiabetic drugs, search for new hypoglycemic drugs from natural source is going on. The present study aimed at evaluation of anti-hyperglycemic potential of two traditionally used plants - Marsdenia tenacissima, Sphaeranthus indicus, by in vitro methods. Both the plants possess hypoglycemic activity though the activity was more in Marsdenia tenacisima. The results of the study revealed that the hypoglycemic activity is more prominent in neutral and basic media as compared to acidic medium.
